TatoHugs is a youth-led initiative that creates biodegradable food packaging made from discarded potato skins. We transform agricultural waste into sustainable packaging solutions, offering an eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic packaging for restaurants, food trucks, events, and environmentally conscious consumers.
Our packaging is made from potato peelsāa natural, renewable resourceāmaking it completely compostable and biodegradable. Unlike plastic that takes 20-500 years to decompose, our packaging breaks down naturally without harming the environment. It's also grease-resistant, heat-resistant, and can be customized for various food items like fries, snacks, and wraps.
We partner with restaurants and food processors to collect their discarded potato peels that would otherwise become waste. This creates a circular economy model where we intercept waste locally, transform it into valuable packaging, and return it to the market while supporting local businesses.
Our packaging is designed for HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering) businesses, food trucks, festivals, events, and any eco-conscious consumers or businesses looking for sustainable food packaging alternatives. We can customize our products for different food items and business needs.
Our process involves four key steps: First, we source discarded potato peels from partner restaurants and food processors. Then we treat and process the peels using sustainable, cost-efficient technologies. Next, we manufacture the peels into durable, biodegradable packaging. Finally, we distribute our products to customers while reinvesting in local communities.
We address two major environmental problems simultaneously: food waste and plastic pollution. By using potato peels that would otherwise be discarded, we reduce organic waste while providing a compostable alternative to plastic packaging. This helps decrease the 141 million tonnes of plastic packaging produced yearly and supports the circular economy.
We support local economies by sourcing raw materials from nearby restaurants and producers, creating a local supply chain. We also collaborate with local businesses, reinvest in communities, and promote environmental awareness through educational initiatives and content campaigns about food waste, sustainability, and the circular economy.
